Blugolds Snap Five Game Winless Streak
EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) — The UW-Eau Claire women's soccer team started the season with two straight wins, since then, they have been on a five-game winless streak. Facing a long set of road games in the upcoming weeks, the Blugolds were looking to snap the winless streak at home against Bethel University (Minn.). They did just that, scoring the first three goals of the game on the way to a 3-1 victory at Bollinger Field.
The Blugolds (3-2-3) have not had a multi-goal game since their last win in the second game of the year. They changed that early on the game against the Royals. Caroline Henderson (So.-Duluth, Minn./East) got things rolling early scoring on an assist from Paige LeGate (Sr.-Green Bay, Wis./Bay Port) in the 19th minute.
Just a few minutes later, in the 22nd minute, Tara Dennehy (So.-Eugene, Ore./Churchill) got her second goal of the season on a nice header off an assist from Fallon Peplinski (Fr.-Appleton, Wis./Xavier). In the 30th minute, Jocelyn Etten (Fr.-Elkhorn, Wis./Elkhorn Area) gave the Blugolds a big lead off a free kick by Hannah Rademacher (Sr.Fond du Lac, Wis./Fond du Lac).
Bethel University cut into the lead on a long goal in the 40th minute that turned out to be the final goal of the game.
Neither team was able to break through in the second half and the Blugolds were able to pick up the 3-1 victory.
The Blugolds held the shot advantage, outshooting the Royals 18-7, including 11-1 in the second half. The corner kicks were equal, with UW-Eau Claire taking four and Bethel University with three.
Nina Behrenbrinker (Sr.-St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall) made one save to improve to 3-2-3 this season.
The Blugolds will now play five-straight road games, including the next four that will be conference matchups. They are 0-0-1 in conference this season and they will play at UW-Whitewater on Saturday at 7 p.m.
