Bobcats defeat Lock Haven in Season end
Buckhannon, W.Va. – Men’s Soccer concluded their 2013 season with a 2-0 win over Lock Haven Bald Eagles Friday evening.
The Bobcat’s fielded all seven seniors, who were thanked and honored for their efforts and commitment to the Men’s Soccer Program.
The first half was closely contested with Lock Haven seeing the better chances. In the 10th minute, the Bobcat’s rode their luck when a low cross, wide on the right, from the Bald Eagles’ Troy Amspacher was just out of the reach of Jacob Oldaker.
The Bald Eagles had another opportunity in the 18th minute, but this time from a corner kick. Adam Supplee won the header but was unable to keep it down.
Wesleyan’s best chances of the first half fell to Thomas Capstick and Joe Rajakumar. With 37 minutes played, Capstick with the ball just right of the 18 yard box, almost caught the Bald Eagles goalkeeper off-guard with a chipped cross, but it was tipped out for a corner by Brad Sumski. The resulting corner was cleared by the Bald Eagles, but only as far as Rajakumar on the edge of the box, whose shot with the outside of the foot just missed the near post.
Wesleyan made a couple of changes for the second half and enjoyed a lot of the ball. After a succession of corner kicks in the 60th minute, the ball was picked up by Rodrigo Bevaqua on the left whose cross was met by Tyler Marshall’s head giving the Bobcat’s the 1-0 lead.
A great play from the ‘Cats, saw Matthew Brown in the box who unselfishly played the ball across to the oncoming Joe Ferraracci, who with only the keeper to beat, puts his shot over.
In the 72nd minute, Matthew Brown was one on one with the Bald Eagles Sumski after a through ball from Jordan Halpern, however, Brown was denied by Sumski’s acrobatic save.
Halpern was involved again in the 76th minute. His cross from the left-hand side was guided towards goal by Brown but the ball was saved only as far as Richard Sho-Silva, but he was unable to make anything of the shot.
Just a minute later, Ferraracci could have given the Bobcat’s a two goal cushion, when he was open on the edge of the box, but he couldn’t keep his shot down.
In the 83rd, Sho-Silva rolled his defender in his own half and made a surging run forward. Sho-Silva played in Ferraracci on the right whose low cross found Brown 6 yards out with an open net. The Bobcat’s with a 2-0 lead saw out the game comfortably.
Men’s Soccer end their season 8-6-4 overall, narrowly missing out on the conference tournament to Wheeling Jesuit.
