Bobcats down Patriot Women in PBC action
FLORENCE, SC - Junior Amanda Bartholomew accounted for seven points, including a hat trick of goals, to lead Georgia College to a 7-0 Peach Belt Conference win over Francis Marion University, Wednesday night (Oct. 19) in women’s soccer action.
FMU will play at Georgia Southwestern State University on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Americus, Ga. The Patriot women will play their final home match on the season on Monday afternoon at 4 p.m. when they entertain Young Harris College for Senior Day.
Freshman Amanda Eckard led Francis Marion with three shots, while junior Haley Bigler, senior Kelly Anthony, and freshman Karley Dunn attempted two apiece.
Patriot sophomore goalkeeper Casey Murakami, who leads the PBC in total saves, registered nine on Wednesday. Ashlee Graham and Jessica Catapano evenly split time in goal for the Bobcats (6-5-1, 3-5-0) and each recorded two saves.
Bartholomew tallied her scores in the 25th, 47th, and 56th minutes and then assisted on Georgia College’s sixth score at 58:21.
Georgia College, which led only 2-0 at intermission, outshot FMU 30-12 and took seven of the contest’s nine corner kicks.
The Patriots seriously threatened to get on the scoreboard over the final 10 minutes. Anthony’s long attempt in the 81st minute curled just outside the left post and Eckard was high and wide on a 12-yard attempt at the 81:53 mark. Eckard’s shot in the box was blocked by Catapano in the 86th minute and the rebound fell to Dunn, but her follow-up shot was high and over the crossbar.
