Borges Scores For SLU in Tie at UMKC
KANSAS CITY – Jamei Borges scored her second goal of the season, but UMKC found the net late in the contest and tied Saint Louis 1-1 Friday night in the UMKC Tournament.
Borges’ goal came at the 37:15 mark. Goalkeeper Katie Walsh made two saves in the opening 45 minutes, and the Billikens (1-2-2) took a 1-0 lead into intermission.
After Saint Louis out-shot UMKC 5-2 in the first half, the Kangaroos (2-2-2) turned the tables with a 4-1 advantage in the second stanza. One of those shots found the mark at 83:01 as Ashley Gann, assisted by Alyssa Elver, tallied her first goal of the year.
Each team fired a shot on frame in the second overtime, but both goalkeepers were up to the task.
Jenny Hummert had a game-high four shots, and Abbey Stock followed with three. Walsh finished with five saves.
The Billikens conclude the UMKC Tournament Sunday with an 11 a.m. match against Florida Gulf Coast.
