Brennen Delivers Centenary's 7th-Straight
HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – Sophomore defender Glenn Brennen (Butler, Pa./Butler Area) scored the game-winning goal in double overtime as the Centenary College men's soccer team extended its school-record winning streak to seven games, topping Rosemont 2-1 on Saturday afternoon.
Brennen collected a loose ball fed to him by seniors Reid Meeker (Phillipsburg, N.J./Notre Dame Green Pond) and Nick Telle (Union, N.J./Roselle Catholic) following a corner kick and deposited his first collegiate goal.
With the victory, Centenary (10-5-2, 7-1 CSAC) is now assured of a top-three seed and home match in the Colonial States Athletic Conference Tournament (Nov. 5-9).
After neither team was able to muster a goal during the first half, Rosemont grabbed the lead seven minutes into the second stanza when Tom Bottoms launched a wind-aided free kick from 60 yards out and sent it sailing through the arms of Centenary sophomore goalkeeper Jesse Goleman (Pittsburgh, Pa./Taylor Allderdice).
The Cyclones found the equalizer in the in the 69th minute as junior Quinn Khouri (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty) collected a rebound and tapped the ball into the back of the net. Brennen followed with a goal three minutes into the second overtime, the Cyclones' second extra-time winner during their current seven-game winning streak.
Seven of Centenary's 13 corner kicks came during overtime and the Cyclones doubled the Ravens shot output, 20-10. Goleman stopped three shots, while Rosemont net minder Max McDonald made seven saves.
Centenary closes out the regular-season on Tuesday at Baptist Bible at 3:30 pm.
