Brevard tops King 1-0
BREVARD, N.C. – The King men’s soccer team outshot Brevard 15-9 on Saturday afternoon, but the Tornados were used a second-half goal to best King 1-0.
Brevard’s lone goal came on the first score of the season from Augusto Isern. Jami Uuttu weaved a pass to Isern on the right side, who sent a bending shot over goalie Kari Sveinsson and into the back of the net.
The Tornado controlled the action for most of the first half, putting pressure on Brevard’s defense and taking nine total shots. Chris Hicks was unable to find the net on a shot from a corner kick by Eli Carrasco after Carrasco’s shot moments earlier was deflected. The Tornado had two shots saved in the first half, saw a shot from Kendale Liburd hit the post, and had another four blocked.
Carrasco led King with seven shots, while Liburd added another four. Sveinsson contributed a save.
“It was another difficult loss,” said head coach John Miglarese. “We did a lot right today, but didn’t finish our chances. We outshot them 15-9 and losing 1-0 is hard to swallow for all of us. Now we have to move on and focus on conference play next weekend.”
The Tornado next play on Saturday, when they host Pfeiffer at 4:00 in the Conference Carolinas opener for both teams. The game will be part of a doubleheader with the women’s team taking the field at 2:00.
