Bridgeport Falls In 2012 Season Opener, 1-0
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport men’s soccer team opened its 2012 season on Friday night hosting the Bloomfield College Deacons in the second match of the 2012 UB Men’s Soccer Classic and the Purple Knights fell in a tight defensive match, 1-0.
Bloomfield’s Diego Mayanga tallied the only goal of the match at the 56:29 mark of play.
BC had a total of nine shots on the night, five of which were on goal; while UB had seven shots, five of which were on goal.
Purple Knights’ freshman goalkeeper Augustin Prados (Madrid, Spain) played well in his debut in the Park City making four saves. Bloomfield’s Kieran Moran also made four saves to notch a clean sheet for the winners.
Bridgeport’s best chance to tie the match came with just under eight minutes to play when senior Jonathan Arisitzabal’s (Medellin, Columbia) shot was cleared off the goal line by a Bloomfield defender.
In the first match of the 2012 UB Men’s Soccer Classic, LIU Post topped Wilmington (Del.) University, 3-1.
Action continues in the 2012 UB Men’s Soccer Classic on Saturday when Bloomfield takes on LIU Post at 4:00 p.m. in battle of Thursday’s winners, and Bridgeport face Wilmington (Del.) at 7:00 p.m. in a battle of teams looking to gain a split in the first two games of the 2012 campaign.
