Bridgport Men Nipped By Wilmington (Del.)
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport men's soccer team scored the first goal of the match with just under 10 minutes to play in the first half, but the Wilmington (Del.) University Wildcats came back to tie the contest at 1-1 only 59 seconds later, and the Wildcats then tallied the game-winning goal with only 2:32 to play in the second half as Wilmington topped UB, 2-1, in the final game of the 2012 Bridgeport Men's Soccer Classic. With the victory, Wilmington evens its early season record at 1-1-0. Bridgeport is now 0-2-0.
Sophomore Juan Galarza (Danbury, Conn.) got the Purple Knights on the scoreboard at the 35:17 mark of play when he scored off an assist from junior Andreas Blanke (Gothenburg, Sweden).
Wilmington tied things up at 1-1 just 59 second later when Ian Wattanga hit the back of the net off a cross from Kresimir Nurnberger.
The tilt remained knotted at 1-1 until the 87:29 mark when the Wildcats' Pedro Moreira scored the game-winning goal off a long solo run that saw him weave through the Bridgeport defense. Moreira now has two goals on the season.
In the day's other match in the 2012 Bridgeport Men's Soccer Classic, LIU Post defeated Bloomfield, 2-1 in overtime. The Pioneers were the only team to win both of their matches over the weekend.
