Bromson scores two as RIT beats Vassar 3-1
POUGHKEEPSIE, NY -- Sophomore forward Rachael Bromson (Suffield, CT/Suffield) scored two goals and assisted on the other, as the RIT women's soccer team defeated Vassar College 3-1 in Liberty League action on Friday afternoon. The Tigers improve to 6-7-0 overall and even their record in the Liberty League to 3-3-0.
RIT outshot the Brewers 18-6 and took seven corner kicks to two for Vassar. Bromson had two goals and an assist for RIT. Ashlene Potter (Rotterdam, NY/Schalmont) had the other RIT goal, and Jaimie Lewandowski (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia) and Sierra Kiss (Sauquoit, NY/Sauquoit) each added assists. Ashley Valenti (Honeoye Falls, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima) picked up the win, allowing one goal and making three saves.
Vassar took a lead in the 26th minute on a goal by Alix Zongrone. She scored on a header off a corner kick by Sarah Bourenane to give the Brewers a 1-0 lead.
Bromson tied the score at 1-1 with her first goal of the game and seventh of the season in the 36th minute. Kiss sent a low cross into the Vassar penalty area that Bromson was able to get a foot on and bury into the back of the net.
Potter made it 2-1 Tigers in the 48th minute off an assist from Bromson. Bromson sent a cross into the area that Potter headed into the net for her second tally of the season.
Bromson scored her second of the game, putting the game away with her eighth goal of the season, off a corner kick by Lewandowski.
RIT will look to make it three straight wins on Saturday when the Tigers face Bard College at 2 pm in Annondale-on-Hudson, New York.
