Broncs Play TAMIU to Scoreless Draw
LAREDO – The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs women’s soccer team played the Texas A&M International University Dustdevils to a 0-0 double overtime draw on Tuesday at the TAMIU Soccer Complex.
The Broncs (3-0-2) are just the fourth NCAA Division I women’s soccer team out of 22 in the history of Texas to be undefeated through their first five matches at the DI level, joining Baylor (5-0-0 in 1996), Incarnate Word (5-0-0 in 2013) and Abilene Christian (4-0-1 in 2013).
Freshman goalkeeper Aubrie Coley (1-0-2) recorded her second shutout in three starts by making seven saves. Dustdevils (0-0-1) goalkeeper Chelsea Knaack (0-0-1) also made seven saves for the shutout.
The Dustdevils led in shots 12-11, although both teams attempted seven shots on goal. Each team committed 13 fouls for a total of 26, marking the highest total in a Broncs match this season. The Dustdevils also had more corner kicks, 4-2.
Freshman Hanna Spets attempted a team-high four shots and was the only Bronc with two shots on goal. Sol Media posted the same numbers to lead the Dustdevils.
The Broncs are back in action on Friday at 7 p.m. when they visit Prairie View A&M.
