Broncs Play Texas Southern to Scoreless Draw
HOUSTON – The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs women’s soccer team played the Texas Southern University Tigers to a 0-0 double overtime tie on Wednesday at Durley Stadium.
It was the Broncs’ (5-1-3) third tie of the season, tying the record for a first year NCAA Division I program in the state of Texas. The other two programs to finish the season with three ties were Incarnate Word, which went 10-6-3 last season, and Texas State, which went 9-9-3 in 1999 while reaching the NCAA Tournament. Both of the aforementioned programs accomplished all of their ties during conference play, meaning the Broncs hold the record for most non-conference ties for a first year NCAA Division I program in the state of Texas.
Freshman goalkeeper Aubrie Coley (3-1-3) made two saves for her third shutout.
Tigers (0-6-1) goalkeeper Liliana Hernandez (0-6-1) made seven saves for her first shutout.
The Broncs outshot the Tigers 10-5, including 7-2 on goal.
The Broncs return home to close out the non-conference slate on Saturday at 7 p.m. against Our Lady of the Lake University at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. Gates open at 6.
