PROVIDENCE, R.I.- It took the Dartmouth women's soccer team 65 minutes to get on the board, but Emma Brush's (Grosse Pointe Park, Mich.) lone goal gave the Big Green a 1-0 win over Brown in non-conference action in Providence.
Dartmouth (8-4-0) did a number on the Bears in the offensive categories, outshooting the host 21-4 and allowing just two shots in the first half. Brush led the way with a game-high four shots while six Big Green players added at least two shots.
Tatiana Saunders (Rye, N.Y.) picked up her fourth shutout of the season and made one save in the contest. Saunders and the Dartmouth backline have held five opponents to under 10 shots this season, including each of its last two opponents and three of the last four.
Tied at 0-0 heading into the second half, Brown (6-5-0) switched goalkeepers bringing in MC Barrett. Dartmouth tested Barrett early, teeing up five quick shots in the opening 12 minutes of the second half.
Chrissy Lozier (Fairfield, Conn.) had a chance at her fourth header of the season but the ball went just wide and kept the Big Green off the board. Dartmouth wouldn't be scoreless for much longer as leading scorer, Brush, tallied her team-leading seventh goal at the 64:22 mark.
A Brown foul led to a Dartmouth free kick just over the midfield line. Aurelia Solomon (Washington, D.C.) placed the kick in the center of the box and after a touch from Lucielle Kozlov (Vancouver, British Columbia) Brush used her head to push the ball into the left corner for the eventual game-winner - her third of the season.
The Big Green came out firing in the first half and looked as if they might take an early lead on a dangerous cross that forced Brown goalkeeper, Amber Bledose, to come out and make a save.
Dartmouth didn't have any problems breaking through the Brown defense and in the first 15 minutes of action, the Big Green fired off four shots, included back-to-back blocked shots from Brush and Solomon
Brown had trouble cracking the Dartmouth defense, registering just two shots in the first frame and not getting their first shot until the 14:40 mark of the half.
Despite outshooting the Bears, the Big Green couldn't find the back of the net, as the teams went into halftime deadlocked at, 0-0.
Dartmouth returns home to take on current Ivy League leader, Penn, on Saturday (Oct. 13). The Big Green and Quakers kick off at 7 p.m. at Burnham Field.
