Buccaneers Fall To Knights
MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers dropped a 2-1 decision to the Lynn Fighting Knights on Wednesday afternoon in a game postponed from Tuesday night.
Things looked bright for the Bucs (3-2-0, 1-1-0 SSC) as Lauren Manna got them on the board in the third minute. Emma Karp played the ball across the top of the 18-yard box and Manna received it and turned on Lynn defender Lauren Handley to rip a shot into the upper right corner.
Barry could not capitalize on a preponderance of possession, spending the vast majority of the game with the ball on Lynn’s side of the field.
Linzi Martin knotted the game at 1-1 in the 16th minute after Barry failed to clear the ball out of the back.
The game stayed tied through the break, though Manna narrowly missed giving the Bucs a lead in the 41st minute when her header went off the crossbar.
In the second half, the Bucs were whistled for a foul about 40 years out and Handley’s service into the area could not be cleared before Jackie Hellet pounced on it to put the Knights up 2-1 in the 61st minute.
Becca Rogers made seven saves for the Bucs, while Megan Dolan had two for the Knights. Barry out-shot Lynn 19-15.
The Bucs travel to Pepin Stadium on Saturday to face the Tampa Spartans.
