Buccaneers Shut Out Mocs In 1-0 Victory
MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – Barry University women’s soccer team defeated Florida Southern Wednesday night, 1-0, in a hard fought match between two SSC foes.
The Mocs (5-6-2, 3-2-1 SSC) entered the match without a loss in their last six contests with a 4-0-2 record throughout the stretch.
In the first half, neither team saw great scoring opportunities and the game quickly turned into a defensive battle in the middle.
The Buccaneers (5-6-1, 2-4-1 SSC) held a slight advantage in shots, 5-3, in the first half but the match was knotted at zero after one period of play.
In the second half the Buccaneers broke through in the 77th minute when Lauren Manna slipped a pass behind the Mocs’ line to find a slashing Sara Karna. With just the keeper to beat, Karna fired a shot past Mocs’ goalkeeper Erin Moseley into the upper-left corner to break the scoreless tie.
However, the following thirteen minutes of play did not come easy as Florida Southern regained its composure and put together several attacks that would test the Bucs defense.
Fortunately, Barry goalkeeper Becca Rodgers and the Buccaneers were up to the task. Rodgers made six of her seven saves in the second half and was assisted by a pair of team saves to preserve the shutout. The Bucs handed Florida Southern their first loss since September 19th.
The Buccaneers will hit the road for a pair of games before returning home for the regular season finale. Barry faces Florida Tech on Saturday, Oct. 20th with kickoff scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Live-stat and audio broadcast will be available through the Barry University athletics website, GOBARRYBUCS.COM.
