Buccaneers Slip By Knights
MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers got back on the winning track with a 1-0 win over the arch-rival Lynn Knights in women’s soccer action from Buccaneer Field Saturday night.
The Bucs (5-3-0) snapped a three-game skid on the strength of a Dominique Richardson goal less than a minute from half. Lauren Manna slipped a pass to Richardson in the middle of the penalty box and Richardson’s one-touch chip clipped the cross-bar on the way to the back of the net.
It was the only offense that either team could muster, but the Knights (2-3-1) kept the pressure on, out-shooting the Bucs on goal 9-4. Becca Rogers made eight stops for the Bucs, while Caitlin Shaver had three for Lynn.
The Knights best chance came in the 56th minute. Rogers came out to challenge Kirstie Schults, but Schults got the better of her and, with only Amber Smith between her and the goal, sent a shot to the near post. But Smith was able to clear it off and preserve the shutout.
The Bucs open up Sunshine State Conference play next Saturday at Florida Southern in Lakeland, Fla., with kickoff set for 5:00 pm.
