BOCA RATON, Fla. – Barry University men’s soccer team suffered a tough defeat at the hands of their rival Lynn Wednesday afternoon, 1-0.
Rivalry games bring out the best in teams and although the Buccaneers have struggled throughout this season, they certainly came out with a purpose.
Barry (4-10-1, 1-6-1 SSC) was looking to knock-off the No. 4 ranked Fighting Knights in their final showdown of the season. After falling to the Knights 2-0 earlier in the year, the Bucs were hungry to avenge the loss.
Neither team scored in the opening period in what turned into a very physical game early on.
Lynn (14-2-0, 7-1-0 SSC) held a slight advantage in shots, 4-1, during the first half but it wasn’t until the 88th minute that the scoreless tie would be broken.
Following a controversial foul called against the Bucs the Fighting Knights played a ball into the box from the left side of the pitch. The cross connected with a header on frame but Fred Perez was there to make the save. Unfortunately for the Bucs, Perez was not able to corral the ball and Simon Gubisch of Lynn slipped a shot past Perez, lifting Lynn to the 1-0 victory.
The Bucs will battle Eckerd College in Feinbloom Field in what will be the season finale this Saturday, Oct. 27th with kickoff set for 7:00 p.m.
Nine seniors will be recognized during a halftime ceremony for their contributions to Barry University and the men’s soccer program. Live-stat and video coverage of the game as well as the halftime ceremony will be available through the Barry University athletics website, GOBARRYBUCS.COM.
