Bulls Net Four Goals in Shutout over ECU
TAMPA, Oct. 7, 2018 – USF women’s soccer, the current national leader in scoring offense, scored four unanswered goals in its match against the Pirates (7-5-2, 2-4-0) on Sunday afternoon.
The Bulls (8-2-0, 3-1-0) kicked off the scoring frenzy in the 44th minute when freshman Sydny Nasello (Land O’ Lakes, Fla.) sent a cross just inside the 6-yard box where junior Rebekah Anderson (Valrico, Fla.) took a quick shot for her first career NCAA goal.
In the 55th minute junior Andrea Hauksdottir (Kopavogur, Iceland) set up for a free kick, she sent the ball up over the defense to the top right corner from about 20 yards out. Less than a minute later, Nasello broke away from a defender and took the ball down the right wing. She got the ball to sophomore Leah Ferlin (Jacksonville, Fla.) who fought a defender outside the penalty box and passed to Hauksdottir. The Icelandic midfielder took a hard shot right down the middle for USF’s third goal, and her second in less than a minute.
In the 77th minute, All-American Evelyne Viens got past two defenders and shot form inside the 18-yard box to net her 41st career goal and tie the record for career goals at USF. Senior Cassidy Kallenborn earned the assist.
USF saw two keepers in goal with Sydney Martinez (Rincon, Ga.) earning her seventh win of the season. She had one save, and sophomore Ricquelle Farquharson (Davie, Fla.) had one save. The pair faced six shots.
USF’s defense was a brick wall, blocking three of ECU’s six shots.
