BYU women's soccer signed four recruits on Wednesday who will join the team for the 2015 season. The quartet includes two goalkeepers and two midfielders who will help replace five outgoing seniors. Two return missionaries and early enrollee Josie Manwill have already arrived on campus this semester and junior defender Paige Hunt will return from her mission later this year as well.
Brianna Hatch has been a team captain for the past two seasons and has helped Highland to a 21-2-1 record along with a first round state playoff win on Monday night with 20 goals and 14 assists on the season. The younger sister of BYU forward Ashley Hatch will form the fifth sister combination in BYU history and the third to play together. The pair combined to win an Arizona state championship together as Brianna, a midfielder, has started for four years at Highland High School. Hatch has been named to All-State and All-Division teams in Arizona and also holds the school record in the 4x400 relay at Highland.
Sabrina Macias has participated in seven US National Team camps, including playing in tournaments in England and Costa Rica with the national team. Last fall she participated in the US U-20 camp in San Diego, Calif. The group has its eye on qualifying for the U-20 World Cup in 2016. As a U-15 club player, Macias and her Colorado Rush team won the Gothia Cup in Sweden where clubs from 71 different countries participated. Her club team was also national champions in the ECNL for the 2011-12 season. Macias will start her senior year of soccer at Thunder Ridge High School this March.
Madie Siddoway has been a four-year starter at Sky View High School and played her club soccer for La Roca. She has served as a club and high school team captain and was a four-time Cache Valley All-Valley Girls Soccer selection. She was invited to the Puma Women's Elite Soccer Showcase in 2013. Siddoway and La Roca have won the past four Utah State Cups.
The NSCAA Utah Player of the Year in 2014, Cassidy Smith is part of the depth and competition the Cougars have added at the goalkeeper position. She was named the Deseret News Ms. Soccer in 2014 and is the fifth consecutive Ms. Soccer to sign with BYU. That list includes Bizzy Phillips, Avery Calton, Michele Murphy and Jaiden Thornock. Smith also earned NSCAA All-West Region First Team honors for her senior year at Lone Peak High School where she led the Knights to a runner-up finish in the 5A state tournament.
