BYU women beat Long Beach State

LONG BEACH, Calif. (August 20, 2010) - Senior forwardKassidy Shumway scored the first goal of the season for the No. 14 BYU Cougars en route to a 2-0 shutout victory over Long Beach State, Friday. 

Shumway's header goal came just two minutes into the the second half off a cross from teammate Stacy Bartholomew. Shumway tallied two shots and one assist against the 49ers. 

Sophomore forward Carlee Payne brought home the win for the Cougars with a one-on-one breakaway against the goalie to the net after a pass from Shumway. Payne tallied three shots in the victory. 

Jennie Marshall led the offense for BYU with five shots, a game-high. 

Karina Camacho led the 49ers with three shots in the game. 

The first half of play was controlled mostly by BYU but the 49ers held off any scoring until the second half. BYU finished with 13 shots to Long Beach State's seven. 

Junior goalkeeper McKinzie Olson recorded her 22nd shutout of her career in the victory.
