Cabrera, DiMarco Tally Goals In Women’s Socc
FREDERICA, Del. – Julianna Cabrera and Taylor DiMarco scored goals Monday night, and the Loyola University Maryland women’s soccer team closed non-conference action with a 2-0 victory over host Delaware State University at the DE Turf Sports Complex.
Cabrera put the Greyhounds on the board in the 42nd minute, heading home a Hannah Hoefs free kick from eight yards out to give Loyola (3-9-1 overall) a 1-0 advantage. Hoefs lined up a free kick from 40 yards out, sending it into box where Cabrera redirected it with a header for her second goal of the year.
DiMarco then scored the first goal of her collegiate career in the 67th minute, collecting a rebound after an Alice Regan cross deflected off the Hornets’ goalkeeper to score. DiMarco got to the loose ball and shot from 15 yards to beat Delaware State goalkeeper Jenna Wallace to her left.
Sumer Rahe logged her second-straight clean sheet in goal for Loyola, extending her scoreless streak to more than 284 minutes.
The Greyhounds had a 10-4 advantage in total shots. Loyola outshot the Hornets 5-0 in the first half, and Delaware State did not record its first shot until the 50th minute. That attempt was a Jasmine Warren take that was saved by Rahe.
Delaware State’s final three shots of the game did not come until the match’s final eight minutes. Rahe finished with three saves for Loyola.
Loyola returns to Patriot League action on Saturday, October 14, when they will face Boston University on the road in a 1 p.m. contest.
