CAMPBELL BREAKS UD CAREER GOALS RECORD
KINGSTON, R.I. – Senior Ashley Campbell became the University of Dayton's all-time leader in career goals when she scored two in the first seven minutes of the match at Rhode Island Thursday night at the URI Soccer Complex. She led the Dayton women's soccer team (7-9-0, 5-2-0 A-10) to a 2-0 shutout road victory over Rhode Island (3-12-1, 0-7-0 A-10), the Flyers' second consecutive Atlantic 10 Conference win.
NOTABLE
• Campbell scored in the 4th minute to tie the UD women's soccer all-time record for goals, tying three-time All-American Colleen Williams (2009-2012) with 58 career goals.
• Campbell broke the record three minutes later and currently has 59 career goals.
• Senior Nicole Waters had an assist in the match. She is one away from tying the career assists record held by Williams with 50.
STATS OF THE MATCH
• This marks Dayton's second shutout vs. an A-10 opponent this season. Freshman goalkeeper Kaelyn Johns had five saves to earn her second collegiate shutout.
• Dayton outshot Rhode Island 16-6, including 10-5 on goal.
DAYTON GOALS
• 4th minute – Campbell scored a little over three minutes into the match from eight yards out after a throw in from Meghan Blank. (Dayton 1, Rhode Island 0)
• 7th minute – Campbell tapped in the second goal of the match after a cross in from Alexis Kiehl and a shot by Waters was saved. Campbell was there for the rebound goal.
UP NEXT
• The Flyers return home to take on St. Bonaventure on Sunday, Oct. 25 at 1 p.m. ET. Senior day recognitions will take place prior to the match vs. the Bonnies.
• Dayton hosts Duquesne on Thursday, Oct. 29 at 7:30 p.m. to close out its home season.
