DAYTON, Ohio – The University of Dayton women's soccer team (3-5-1) defeated Ohio University (3-5-0) 4-0 Friday night in front of a crowd of 1,413 spectators at Baujan Field.
The Flyers were led by junior forward Ashley Campbell, who tallied a hat trick in the first half.
Campbell led off the scoring with a curling shot from outside the box in the 23rd minute. She added her sixth goal of the season with a low strike into the left corner in the 31st minute to give the Flyers a 2-0 advantage. Alexis Kiehl recorded her first assist of the season on that goal.
It took Campbell less than three minutes after that to bury in a goal off a corner from junior midfielder Nicole Waters in the 34th minute to complete her first-half hat trick.
The Flyers took a 3-0 lead into halftime, and Nicole Waters added a goal of her own in the 80th minute, her fifth goal of the season.
Goalkeeper Elizabeth James helped Dayton record its second shutout of the season. James recorded four saves on the night.
The Flyers take on Toledo this Sunday, Sept. 21 at 1 p.m. at Baujan Field. Admission is free to UD regular season soccer matches. TimBits and bagels will be served, courtesy of Tim Hortons, while supplies last.
