CCSU Women's Soccer Drops Bryant Match, 2-1

The Central Connecticut women's soccer team (1-9-1, 0-3-0 NEC) fell to the Bryant Bulldogs (7-6-0, 2-2-0 NEC) on Sunday 2-1 in New Britain, CT at the CCSU Soccer Field. The Blue Devils outshot the Bulldogs 20-9 and junior Jewel Robinson posted the lone goal for Central.

CCSU freshman defender Marissa Quesnel kicked off the first half with a shot that went above the net. Central continued the aggressive front with a corner kick from freshman Claire Walsh followed by a wide header from sophomore Danica Foglio. Following a Bryant foul nine minutes into the match, CCSU regained possession of the ball and junior Allison Kelley took her first shot of the game, resulting in a save from Bulldog goalkeeper Lauren Viverito.

In the 13th minute of the game, it was senior Carolyn Giuliano who found the back of the net for Bryant on a cross from the right corner of the box, putting the Bulldogs up 1-0. Seven minutes later, Robinson shot from the right of the box and landed the ball into the left side of the net to tie the game 1-1. Robinson was assisted by a pass from sophomore Kerriann Welch. Central outshot the Bulldogs 10-5 in the first period and scoreless play concluded the rest of the half, sending the teams to the locker room tied, 1-1.

The second half began with more offensive attacks by Central including a wide header and a saved shot by Walsh, a wide shot by Kelley and a shot over the net by senior Erin Egan. At 12 minutes into the second half, Bryant junior Shana Follette scored the final goal of the match, putting the Bulldogs up with a final score of 2-1.

Central totaled four corner kicks on the day, compared to Bryant's five. Senior Rachel Cerrone led the Blue Devils in shots with four, one on goal, and Robinson posted three on goal. Egan, Walsh and Welch also each posted three shots on the day.

The Blue Devils return to action Friday, Oct. 5 at St. Francis (PA) at 12 p.m.
