CCSU Women's Soccer Drops NEC Match at SHU
The Central Connecticut women's soccer team fell at Sacred Heart by a score of 2-0 on Friday night. The Blue Devils outshot the Pioneers 12-10 but were unable to find the back of the net in 90 minutes of regulation. With the loss, CCSU falls to 3-8-0 (1-1-0 NEC) on the season.
The Pioneers (4-9-0, 1-2-0 NEC) earn their first conference victory with the win. The Blue Devils went down in the 28th minute when Sacred Heart notched the first goal of the game off of a shot into the upper right corner by SHU's Alexis Parlato. Neither team was able to score throughout the remainder of the first half and the squads entered the locker rooms with CCSU trailing by one.
Central conceded the final goal in the 71st minute of play when Parlato beat CCSU keeper Nikola Deiter, sending the ball into the corner of the net, to secure the win for the Pioneers.
Two Blue Devils led the squad on offense with three shots each, junior Tori Sousa and freshman Morgan Santoro. Sousa registered two shots on goal of CCSU's three. Senior Jewel Robinson added the other.
Both Deiter and SHU goalie Sydney Judkins tallied three saves between the posts, all three of Deiter's stops came in the first half while Judkins' earned hers in the second. Both teams came out even in corner kicks, each posting four.
The Blue Devils return home on Sunday, Oct. 13, to host the LIU Brooklyn Blackbirds in their third NEC contest of the season. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at the CCSU Soccer Field, fans can watch the action live by visiting www.NECFrontRow.com.
