CCSU Women's Soccer Falls at Home Sunday
The Central Connecticut women's soccer team fell at home on Sunday to NEC foe LIU Brooklyn by a score of 1-0. The Blue Devils (3-9, 1-2 NEC) outshot the Blackbirds 19-10, but were unable to find the back of the net in 90 minutes of regulation play.
Central gave up the lone goal of the match in just the seventh minute of play when LIU's Allison King headed a throw-in toward the goal. The ball was deflected off of CCSU defender Jewel Robinson and found its way between the posts to put CCSU behind by one.
In what proved to be a physical match-up between the two squads, neither team was able to get an opportunity to score throughout the remaining 82 minutes and LIU claimed its first conference win of the season.
Central posted six shots on goal and were led by senior Rachel Cerrone, who posted four shots, two on goal. Freshman Morgan Santoro also posted four shots.
The Blue Devils were able to hold the Blackbirds to just 10 shots, three on goal, in the match. Senior Nikola Deiter tallied two saves on the day while LIU's Jessica Sexton racked up six.
Both teams took three corner kicks on the day.
The loss drops CCSU to 1-2 in the NEC. The Blue Devils will return home on Wednesday, Oct. 16, to take on Boston College at 7 p.m. Fans can watch the game live, for FREE, on www.NECFrontRow.com.
