CCSU Women's Soccer Falls to Army 1-0
The Central Connecticut women's soccer team fell by a score of 1-0 in the 85th minute to the visiting Army Black Knights. With the loss, the Blue Devils drop to 0-5-0 on the season, Army improves to 3-3-1.
Central kicked off the match boasting a strong defense over the Black Knights. Despite Army racking up five corner kicks in the first half alone, compared to one for the Blue Devils, CCSU rendered the squad scoreless.
The Blue Devils posted five shots in the first half including one 35 minutes in from senior Rachel Cerrone that landed on goal. Freshman Christiana Solomou followed it up with an attempt that went wide less than a minute later. Three saves by Army's freshman goalie Jordan Cassalia prevented a CCSU lead despite the close calls.
Entering the second half scoreless, both teams attempted to gain the lead, however, play remained even until the 85th minute when Army's Katie Holder landed a shot from the right corner of the box into the top of the net. The goal gave the Black Knights the lead with less than five minutes to play. Central was unable to overcome the deficit.
CCSU was outshot by the Black Knights 13-10. The Blue Devils registered four shots on goal compared to five for Army. Senior Nikola Deiter spent all 90 minutes between the posts and tallied four saves on the day, even with Army's Cassalia.
