CCSU Women's Soccer Falls to Siena 2-1
The Central Connecticut women’s soccer team fell to Siena College on Friday evening 2-1 in Loudonville, NY. Central is now 1-5 on the season.
The Siena Saints (1-4) edged the Blue Devils in shots 23-17. Central was led by junior Allison Kelley who posted one goal and four shots on the day. Kelley was closely followed by sophomore Kerriann Welch who also posted four shots (one on goal) and senior Cara Cavallari and junior Rachel Cerrone, who each posted two shots (one on goal). Goalkeeper Nikola Deiter racked up six saves during the match.
Eight Blue Devils took shots toward the goal however, the aggressive front was not enough to top the Saints. Just over 32 minutes into the first half, Siena freshman Kelly Ristoff capitalized on a Central turnover. She shot the ball into the far side of the net, offsetting the score 1-0 and, just two minutes later, senior Caitlin Cahalan added an insurance goal off of a free kick five yards outside of the box to put the Saints on top 2-0 at the half. Both goals were unassisted.
Siena senior Nicole Daly opened the second half with two shots, resulting in two saves by Deiter to keep the deficit to two. Play continued and, with just less than 15 minutes left to play, Kelley took a long pass from freshman Claire Walsh and fired it into upper corner of the net to narrow the gap 2-1. Kelley notched her first goal of the season and ultimately, the lone Blue Devil goal for the game.
Central travels to New Haven, CT on Sunday to face off against Yale at 4 p.m.
