CCSU’s Quick Strikes Sink Saints
Central Connecticut scored twice in 75 seconds to overcome Siena Women’s Soccer 2-1 Sunday afternoon in New Britain, Conn. Senior captain Brittany Pfaff continued to shine, scoring her sixth goal in seven matches for the Saints.
Pfaff made good on her first career penalty kick attempt, putting the Saints (3-4) on top in the 21st minute. Pfaff has factored in the scoring on 10 of Siena’s 11 goals to date this fall and has already amassed 16 points on the season.
But in a match where all three goals came in a six-minute span, Central Connecticut (1-5) had the final say. Morgan Santoro knotted the score in the 26th minute and then assisted on Julie Lavoie’s game-winner moments later.
The Blue Devils out-shot the Saints 19-17, but Siena had the majority of chances putting 11 of their shots on target to just two for CCSU. Blue Devils’ goalie Nikola Dieter proved to be the difference, making seven of her 10 saves in the second half.
Siena concludes non-conference play Wednesday with a 4 p.m. kickoff vs. Vermont at Siena Field.
