Centenary Clipped By Marywood 2-1
HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – A penalty-kick goal from Kris Kassel was the difference maker as Marywood held on for a 2-1 victory over Centenary College in Colonial States Athletic Conference men's soccer action on Wednesday night.
Kassel was taken down in the box during the 61st minute to draw the penalty kick. He sent a shot that barely evaded Centenary sophomore goalkeeper Jesse Goleman (Pittsburgh, Pa./Taylor Alderdice) to put Marywood in front.
The Pacers had taken an early lead during the match, scoring in the third minute. Daniel Lopez provided Marywood with his third goal of the fall.
However, the Cyclones knotted the match 1-1 just over 11 minutes later with a penalty kick of their own. Junior forward Quinn Khouri (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty) blasted a shot past Pacer goalie Justin Sunseri for his first tally of the season.
Goleman made four stops for Centenary, while Sunseri needed to make just one save for MU.
The Cyclones (3-5-2, 0-1) were outshot by the Pacers (4-2-2, 1-0) 6-2, but held a 4-2 edge in corner kick opportunities.
Centenary continues league play on Saturday at Cairn beginning at 4:00 pm.
