Central’s Bailey named all-North Region
PELLA—Central College women’s soccer forward Alayna Bailey (senior, Des Moines, Hoover HS) was named National Soccer Coaches Association of America/Continental Tire NCAA Division III Women’s All-North Region third team following her MVP performance this season.
It is the first all-region honor in Dutch women’s soccer history.
“Anytime there’s a first in the program, it’s a good thing,” coach Mike Kobylinski said. “I’m delighted that it happened to Alayna. It’s a credit to her hard work, as well as her teammates.”
Coincidentally, Kobylinski was the first Central men’s player to earn all-region distinction, receiving second-team honors in 2002.
Bailey was named the Iowa Conference women’s soccer offensive MVP—the first in program history—and first-team all-league after leading the conference with 19 goals, 41 points and five game-winning goals. Her 19 goals and 41 points rank second all time in a single season in Central history. Bailey ranked No. 24 in scoring in Division III.
Bailey exits with two school records with 74 appearances and a five consecutive games scoring streak (Sept. 12-20, 2012). She ranks second in program history with 47 career goals and 101 career points. Bailey was a three-time all-conference selection, conference female athlete of the week (Sept. 19, 2011) and four-time conference women’s soccer offensive player of the week honoree.
The Dutch tied the school records for wins in a single season with 12 (12-6-2 overall) and winning percentage at .650, qualifying for their third consecutive Iowa Conference tournament for the second time ever and posting a program-best 10 shutouts. Bailey and her senior teammates leave with the most wins of any graduating class at 36-32-6 overall. Kobylinski moved into first on the all-time wins list at Central with 34 over three seasons (34-19-5), as well.
Bailey represented Central as one of two conference schools with all-region selections.
