Cincinnati Drops Road Match to No. 18 DePaul
Sept. 18, 2014
The University of Cincinnati women's soccer team had a five-match unbeaten streak snapped Thursday night in a 3-1 loss to No. 18/20 DePaul. Sophomore Katy Couperus netted the lone goal for the Bearcats.
DePaul (8-0-1) got on the board first as they netted a goal on their first shot of the match in the 25th minute, but Cincinnati (5-2-2) answered right away. Couperus slipped a goal by the keeper less than 45 seconds later. The Bearcats held the nationally ranked opponent to just two shots in the first half.
Despite holding a shot advantage of 12-2, UC was unable hold on in second half as DePaul netted two goals within the first 15 minutes to garner a 3-1 lead, which they would not relinquish.
DPU - Elise Wyatt (Alexa Ben), 25th
Ben dribbled down the right side and sent a cross to the far post. Wyatt was there to tap in the goal. DPU 1, CIN 0

Howard slipped a pass through the Blue Demons' defense to Couperus. The sophomore then took a shot from eight yards out. DPU 1, CIN 1

Ben posted up a UC defender and flicked a ball over her head. Reed rushed passed the Bearcats' defense and tapped the ball into the back of the net. DPU 2, CIN 1
DPU - Abby Reed (Sarah Gorden), 54th
Reed took a big shot from midfield as she beat Smith to the lower left corner of the goal. DPU 3, CIN 1
STAFFORD'S STANCE
“I am disappointed for the ladies because I thought they worked really hard, but DePaul punished us on the few opportunities they had by burying goals,” said Stafford. “We didn’t create as many opportunities as we would have liked, but it wasn’t because of a lack of work rate. We just could have controlled certain moments better and executed like we have in the last couple weeks.”
“We are excited that we have another opportunity to face a quality opponent in Syracuse, who is in the top conference for women’s soccer [Atlantic Coast Conference]. In a few days, we will get to go after another good team with an opportunity to make ourselves better before conference play.”
