Cincinnati Scorches St. Francis, 5-0
Sept. 7, 2014
The University of Cincinnati women's soccer capped off an undefeated weekend with a 5-0 shutout win over St. Francis at Gettler Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
With the youth of the Bearcats (4-1-1) stealing the spotlight on Friday night, the upperclassmen made their presence known on Sunday by scoring four of the five goals against the Red Flash (0-6-0).
Redshirt junior Mackenzie Grause started off the scoring with a goal in the 3rd minute, and redshirt senior Emily Elsbrock added another goal in the 12th minute. The Bearcats would take the 2-0 lead into the locker room.
Danielle Rotheram stole the show in the second half as she netted goals in the 67th and 69th minute, while also assisting on Taylor Jackson's goal in the 71st minute.
Cincinnati shutout their opponent for the second consecutive match. Dating back to the UC Santa Barbara game on Aug. 31, the Bearcats have held their opponents scoreless for 202 minutes and 48 seconds.
CIN - Mackenzie Grause (Christi Howard), 3rd
Following a corner that was punched away by the Red Flash goalkeeper, Howard one-timed a shot on goal, but it was batted away. Grause got the rebound at the front of the goal and tapped it in. CIN 1, SFU 0
CIN - Emily Elsbrock (unassisted), 12th
An errant pass back to the SFU goalkeeper got through the defense, and Elsbrock raced to the ball with the Red Flash keeper. Both the redshirt senior and goalkeeper kicked at the ball at the 18-yard box, and to UC's luck it ricocheted towards the goal. With an empty net, Elsbrock then pushed the ball across the goal line. Ehrnfelt crossed a ball to the far post, and Jackson was there to head the ball to Rotheram's feet. The junior then one-timed the ball to the lower, left corner. CIN 3, SFU 0
CIN - Danielle Rotheram (Katy Couperus, Allison Abbe), 69th
