Cincinnati Shuts Out Houston at Home
The University of Cincinnati women's soccer team closed out their 2014 home slate with a 1-0 victory over Houston. The Bearcats garnered their 10th win of the season and reach double-digit victories for the first time since 2008.
UC (10-5-2, 4-3-0 American) struggled in the first half to get things going, but the Bearcats capped off the first 45 with a goal in the final 14 seconds by sophomore Taylor Jackson.
Houston (1-8-5, 0-6-1 American) only generated one shot all match but stayed in the match thanks to Jordan Brown's play in net. The freshman recorded seven saves in the second half, including one on a penalty kick by Cincinnati.
In the opposite net was senior Kristina Utley, who posted her second consecutive shutout and got both weekend victories for the Bearcats.
CIN - Taylor Jackson (Mackenzie Grause), 45th
Grause intercepted a pass between Houston's midfielders and kicked a through ball to Jackson, who was streaking by the defenders. The Cougars' keeper came out and slid at Jackson and the ball, but the save attempt backfired as Jackson remained on her feet and the ball rolled towards the goal. The junior regained possession of the ball just outside the six-yard box and tapped the ball into the empty net. CIN 1, HOU 0
