Clayton State women fall short in 4-2 Peach Belt Conference defeat at Armstrong Atlantic
SAVANNAH, Ga. – September 24, 2011 – Following a dreaded first half, it would have been easy for the Clayton State Laker women’s soccer to just roll over on Saturday at Armstrong Atlantic.
But the Lakers didn’t.
After allowing four first-half goals, Clayton State got back in the game with two second-half goals. However, it wasn’t enough as the Lakers dropped a 4-2 decision to Armstrong Atlantic in Peach Belt Conference play. Natalia Valentine scored both Clayton State goals to give her seven on the season. She scored her first in the 69th minute off a deflection by Pirate goalkeeper Meghan Mayville. Valentine struck again four minutes later, tapping a shot past reserve Pirate goalkeeper Maggie Carson.
Armstrong Atlantic took a 1-0 lead in the 15th minute on a goal by Casey Dixon. The Pirates then scored twice in three minutes – a goal by Kristina Pascutti in the 19th minute, followed by another by Morgan Mitchell on a header in the 22nd minute.
