GOLDEN – NSCAA No. 9 Colorado School of Mines men's soccer was dealt a disappointing upset Friday evening, falling 3-2 at the hands of Colorado Christian at CSM Soccer Stadium.

Despite only seven shots and five shots on goal, the Cougars (2-6-0, 1-3-0 RMAC) scored twice over the final 7:03, including the game-winner by Bryce Fosdick with 2:17 remaining to give Mines (4-1-1, 2-1-0 RMAC) its first loss of the season and snap a 20-game losing streak in the series.

Senior Tesho Akindele earned three points in the setback, assisting on the game's initial score at 27:28 – a straight-on, 13-yard look to the bottom, right-90 by classmate Baski Baker – and heading in a corner by junior Jared Herselman in the 84th minute.

The goal was Akindele's third straight via a header, all coming off the foot of Herselman.

The Division II active career leader in goals (63) and points (153), Akindele continues to lead to the RMAC in both categories with six and 15, respectively, and ranks second in assists (3).

CCU eventually evened the game in the 37th minute, converting a penalty kick following an inadvertent handball in the box, and took its first lead at 82:57 on a 30-yard strike to the top, right corner by Sam Walberer.

The Orediggers recorded a season-high 29 shots and 15 corner attempts, placing nine shots on frame. Akindele had five of eight tries on net, while Baker, Herselman, red-shirt senior Alex Gunberg and sophomore Joe Haines each had one shot on target.
