Colorado College Blanks Southwestern
Perhaps Colorado College should play all of its games in Texas.
Senior forward Brandon Ogilvie struck for a pair of goals and sophomore goalkeeper Tom Crosby stopped all three shots that he faced in his first collegiate start to lead the Tigers to a 4-0 victory at Southwestern University on Friday night.
CC now has won all three of its games in the Lone Star State this season, with one regular-season contest remaining on Sunday at Trinity University in San Antonio. The Tigers improved to 7-4-2 overall and 6-2-0 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
Ogilvie, who has six goals in the last six games, put Colorado College on the board when he converted off of a precision passes through the right side of the defense by sophomore midfielder Seth Newby.
Unlike last Friday when the Tigers were unable to extend their one-goal lead and eventually dropped a 2-1 decision to the Pirates at Stewart Field, CC added a pair of insurance tallies in rapid succession early in the second frame.
Ogilvie completed his second multiple-goal game of the season 84 seconds into the second half after taking a feed from sophomore midfielder Ryan Huettel.
Just 33 seconds later, senior forward Sean Parham made the score 3-0 off a pass from freshman defender Christian Wulff.
Freshman forward Caden MacKenzie rounded out the scoring in the 70th minute, giving Colorado College a season-high four goals. Newby set up the play to complete the first multiple-point game of his career.
Meanwhile, Crosby earned the shutout in his first collegiate start and CC's defense bounced back to record its sixth clean sheet of the season. The Tigers now have held their opponents to fewer than five shots on goal in 10 of 13 games this season.
Colorado College finished with a 13-8 advantage in total shots and a 6-4 edge in corner kicks.
Daniel Poole made six saves for Southwestern, which slipped to 9-5-0 overall and 7-1-0 in league play.
