Colorado College Cruises at Centenary
Colorado College struck for three goals during the first 35 minutes and cruised to a 3-1 victory over Centenary College on Sunday.
The Tigers improved to 11-5-2 overall and 10-3-0 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference. CC kept its hopes alive for a second-place finish and a bye in the opening round of the 2013 conference tournament.
Colorado College pulled to within a point of Southwestern, pending the outcome of the Pirates’ game at Texas Lutheran College later today.
Sophomore midfielder Seth Newby extended his goal-scoring streak to three games when he found the net 17:16 into the game.
The Tigers doubled their lead in the 30th minute when senior forward Brandon Ogilvie converted off of a corner kick by senior midfielder Ben Blass. The tally proved to be Ogilvie’s SCAC-leading fifth game winner of the season.
A little less than five minutes later, junior forward Stuart Beezley bumped the lead to 3-0 when he converted off a pass from senior forward Sean Parham for his first goal of the season.
The Gents broke up the shutout in the 68th minute when Cole Davidson scored on the last of his team’s three shots on target.
Sophomore Ian Horne made a pair of saves for CC, which allowed only eight total attempts. It marked the 14th time in 18 games that the Tigers held an opponent to fewer than 10 shots.
Gents keeper Chase Duet stopped three shots before giving way to Austin Andrews with 16:08 to play. Andrews finished with four saves for Centenary, which dropped to 1-17-0 overall and 1-12 in league play.
Colorado College plays host to Johnson & Wales University on Wednesday at Stewart Field, then wraps up the regular season with a conference match on Saturday at the University of Dallas.
