Cowgirl Soccer Continues Conference Action
LARAMIE, Wyo. (Oct. 2, 2013) – The University of Wyoming women’s soccer team will continue Mountain West Conference play when UW travels for a 4 p.m. matchup with Boise State on Friday and a 1 p.m. contest with Utah State on Sunday.
The Cowgirls (4-6-1, 1-0) are coming off their first conference match of the year against Colorado State with a 3-0 victory in Fort Collins, Colo. this last Sunday. Freshman Sammi Dunda recorded her first goal as a Cowgirl, while Sophomore Mollee Ramsay scored her third goal of the season. Senior Lucie McDowell tallied her sixth goal of 2013, which is the most she has had as a Cowgirl in a single season.
McDowell has 29 shots, six goals and 13 total points in 2013. Ramsay has started all 11 games for UW and scored three goals, while junior Sara Paul has scored twice and leads the team with five assists. Senior Liz O’Reilly has recorded two goals on the season and is second on the team with three assists. Junior goalkeeper Alex Boehm has played every minute for UW protecting the goal, recording 43 saves.
Boise State comes into Friday with a 6-4-2 overall record, 1-1 in the Mountain West. In their most recent action, the Broncos won a 1-0 contest with Nevada on Sunday after dropping a 2-1 match with UNLV on Friday. Sophomore midfielder Brooke Heidemann leads the Broncos with six goals and 13 total points on the season. Junior goalkeeper Maddy McDevitt is 6-4-2 in goal thus far, while making 40 saves for Boise State.
Utah State fell to Nevada 2-1 on Friday before defeating UNLV 2-1 Sunday to bring their record to 5-4-2, 1-1 in the Mountain West. Junior defender Taryn Rose has recorded three goals off 15 shots through the first 11 games, while sophomore goalkeeper Jeannie Woller has made 54 saves for the Aggies protecting the goal.
The Cowgirls are 5-1-1 all-time against the Broncos and 3-2-2 against the Aggies. The last meeting between UW and Boise State was Oct. 14, 2012, when the Broncos came out on top with a 1-0 victory in double overtime. Senior Olivia Mohtadi led the Cowgirls with three shot attempts. On Sept. 23, 2012, the Cowgirls and Aggies settled for a 1-1 draw. McDowell scored UW’s lone goal of the match.
