Cowgirls Battle for MW First Place
The University of Wyoming women’s soccer team takes on rivals No. 24 San Diego State and New Mexico this weekend. The Cowgirls will battle for first place in the Mountain West standings on Friday evening at No. 24 San Diego State at 8 p.m. MT and Sunday at New Mexico at 1 p.m. The Aztecs and Cowgirls are currently tied for first in the MW, while the Lobos are fifth. Wyoming owns a program-record, five-game winning streak in MW play after two conference wins last weekend. Freshman forward Kaitlyn Lomsnes leads the MW-only stats with 20 points off nine goals and two assists, including three goals last weekend.
“We are excited for the two games,” UW head coach Pete Cuadrado said. “We know we will have our hands full with two very good teams on the road this weekend. Both of the programs have been consistently at the top of the conference and if we want to put ourselves in that category we need to get results against them.”
Last time vs. San Diego State: The Cowgirls trail in the series, 4-12-1, with the last meeting on Oct. 13, 2013, a 2-1 victory over the Aztecs. Wyoming dished San Diego State its first Mountain West regular-season loss since Oct. 16, 2011, at the Louis S. Madrid Sports Complex.
