Cowgirls Down Colorado School of Mines 5-1
GOLDEN, Colo. (Aug. 16, 2014) The University of Wyoming women's soccer team opened its 2014 season with a 5-1 victory against Colorado School of Mines on Saturday. This was their second meeting with CSM with the Cowgirls winning both games. Alisha Bass led the Cowgirls with two goals in the win.
"It was good to see the girls execute on things we have worked on throughout preseason,” head coach Pete Cuadrado said. “They were able to make adjustments at halftime and come out and capitalize on their opportunities which is great to see this early on in our season.”
In the first half at the 40:26 mark, Laurel Ramer scored unassisted, while Bass also had her first goal at 32:07 from the near side assisted from Katie Marcheso. The Cowgirls went into the second half with a 2-0 lead. In the second half Kaitlyn Lomsnes got her first goal off of a Bass service for the assist. Bass got her second goal of the season at 10:30 mark in the game off a cross by Kasey Curtis. To finish off the game at the time of 2:37 Mollee Ramsay got a goal off a header off a service on a corner kick bySammi Dunda.
"We are looking to get after it this week and prepare for Kansas," added Cuadrado.
The Cowgirls will return to play on Aug. 22 at 6 p.m. MT against Kansas at Lawrence, Kan.
