Cowgirls to Continue Strong Spring Season
Much like other teams nationwide, the University of Wyoming women's soccer team has used the offseason as a time to set goals, both collectively and individually to improve for the upcoming season. Facing the challenges of new faces along with new lineups, the Cowgirls are off to a 3-1 start.
UW began the spring season March 8 with the Cowgirl Spring Tournament. They played two games in the Wyoming Indoor Practice Facility, defeating Colorado Mines, 1-0 before falling 4-3 in penalty kicks to Northern Colorado.
"That first weekend gave us a lot of opportunity to watch tape and continue to improve our game," Wyoming head coach Pete Cuadrado said. "With the redshirts and a transfer, we have a couple new faces mixing in. It's always tough being inside all spring but we just need to continue to work and get everyone on the same page."
On Sunday, UW hosted South Dakota and Western Colorado State. The Cowgirls won 2-1 against South Dakota and 1-0 against Western Colorado State.
"New people in new positions can always bring a challenge or two," Cuadrado said. "But I think our defense is starting to look a little more comfortable and with that I'd say our next step is working on the attacking side."
Wyoming will travel to the University of Utah on Saturday. UW will play two games beginning at 11:45 a.m. against Utah Valley and the second game against Utah at 3:15 p.m. On April 19, Wyoming will take part in two more games at Colorado Mesa. At 2:30 p.m., the Cowgirls will compete against Denver and Colorado Mesa at 6:30 p.m. The following day, UW will play Fort Lewis at 9 a.m.
The final event of the spring season will be the annual Alumni Game on April 26 in the IPF.
