CSU Bakersfield Posts Fourth Straight Shutout To Defeat San Jose State 2-0
SACRAMENTO, Calif.—No. 25 CSU Bakersfield (7-0-4, 3-0 MPSF) recorded its fourth consecutive shutout as the Roadrunners defeated San Jose State (4-4-3, 1-2 MPSF) 2-0 Sunday afternoon at Spartan Stadium.
Jesus Sanchez (Jr., Chula Vista, Calif., Castle Park HS) converted a loose rebound in front to score 33 minutes into the match and give the Roadrunners the advantage. Playing with an advantage after San Jose State received two red cards, Gyasi Zardes (R-So., Hawthorne, Calif., Leutzinger HS) scored his 13th goal of the season in the 77th minute. Kory Kindle (Jr., Ventura, Calif., Ventura HS) and Sanchez earned assists on the play. Eric Shannon (Jr., Valencia, Calif., Valencia HS) recorded his fifth shutout of the season, making three saves.
The Roadrunners are now 1-of-3 teams (No. 1 Connecticut, and No. 6 New Mexico are the others) that remain unbeaten in Division I men’s soccer. CSUB has not given up a goal in three MPSF matches and have not given up a goal in the last 421 minutes of play dating back to the Sept. 25 match at Oregon State when the Beavers scored in the 28th minute.
CSUB returns to the Main Soccer Field Friday night as part of a doubleheader with the Roadrunner women’s soccer program. The women host Seattle University at 5 p.m. with the men hosting Sacramento State in MPSF action at approximately 7 p.m.
