CSUB And UC Santa Barbara Play To 1-1 Tie
BAKERSFIELD, Calif.--CSU Bakersfield (2-6-1) and UC Santa Barbara (5-5-2) played to a 1-1 tie Sunday night at Main Soccer Field.
Emily Noethe (Fr., Dallas, Ga., East Paulding HS) broke the seal for the Roadrunners when she headed in a Daisy Vasquez (R-Jr., Redwood City, Calif., Woodside HS) pass just 20 seconds into the match. The Gauchos tied the match in the 76th minute when Erica Shelton scored off a direct kick.
UC Santa Barbara outshot the Roadrunners 14-8 as CSUB goalie Kym Gause (Sr., Manteca, Calif., Modesto JC) made six saves. The Gauchos held a 19-4 advantage in corner kicks but the Roadrunner defense held.
“I commend our team for a hard faught battle,” said CSUB head coach Melissa Phillips. “UC Santa Barbara is a team we have never been to get a result against and this is a good result. I do not think that the scoreboard depicted how we played. We had a lot of possession and solid attacking opportunties. It was a good performance and its nice to see our team build on what we have been working on.”
