Cyclones Blanked By St. Joseph's
PATCHOGUE, N.Y. – St. Joseph's College (LI) scored a pair of second-half goals as it blanked Centenary College 2-0 in non-conference women's soccer action on Monday evening.
The Cyclones (6-9-2) and Eagles (14-5-1) both registered four shots during the first half, but neither team was able to muster a goal.
St. Joseph's broke through in the 54th minute when Jennifer Martino took a feed from Samantha Garcia and found the back of the net. Martino then assisted on Katelyn Chiasera's insurance goal 23 minutes later.
Junior goalkeeper Megan Williams (Glenside, Pa./Abington) made seven stops for the Cyclones, while junior Cara Holmes (Pittstown, N.J./North Hunterdon) and sophomore Lorraine Dedrick (Trumbull, Conn./Trumbull) both collected two shots to lead the offense.
The Eagles held a 17-8 advantage in shots and both teams tallied three corner kicks.
Centenary concludes its regular season Thursday at Baptist Bible (3:30 pm). The Cyclones have already clinched a berth in the Colonial States Athletic Conference Tournament.
