Cyclones Edged By Rosemont On Late Goal
ROSEMONT, Pa. – Rosemont scored the match's lone goal during the 83rd minute to clip Centenary College 1-0 in Colonial States Athletic Conference women's soccer action on Wednesday evening.
Junior goalkeeper Nikki Gillis (Howell, N.J./Howell) made a pair of saves during the opening half, while Rosemont net minder Jenna Kaiser stopped the only shot she faced to preserve a scoreless game.
The Cyclones top scoring chance came in the 61st minute as a shot from junior Becky Camp (Belford, N.J./Middletown North) rang off the cross bar. Senior Amira Guerrero (Fort Lee, N.J./Fort Lee) followed with a shot that missed just wide.
The Ravens broke the scoreless tie with just under eight minutes to play in regulation. Lauren Whelan sent a corner kick in front of the net that was headed in by Stephanie Tamburro for what proved to be the game-winning goal.
Centenary attempted 12 shots during the match, led by three from senior Kelley Carvalho (Roselle, N.J./Roselle Catholic), while Gillis made five stops in net. Kaiser blocked four shots to help Rosemont improve to 4-0 in CSAC play.
The Cyclones visit Gwynedd Mercy on Saturday for noon match with the Griffins.
