Cyclones Rally Past Defenders
CLARKS SUMMIT, Pa. – Centenary College scored the final three goals of the match as it picked up its program-record, eighth-straight men's soccer victory by a 3-1 count at Colonial States Athletic Conference foe Baptist Bible on Tuesday afternoon.
The Cyclones' eight CSAC triumphs this fall are their most since joining the league in 2007, while the team's 11 overall wins are tied with the 2006 team for the third-highest, single-season total in Centenary history.
CC has locked up a top-two seed for next week's CSAC Tournament and will receive a bye through the first round. The Cyclones will host a semifinal game on Thursday, November 7 with game time and opponent still to be determined.
The Defenders took an early 1-0 lead, but Centenary responded at the 29:22 mark when freshman Luis Marin (Union City, N.J./Union Hill) delivered a pass to junior Sebastian Castillo (Wharton, N.J./Morris Hills), who tallied his first goal of the season.
Marin propelled the Cyclones into the lead midway through the second half as he smashed a shot past Baptist Bible goalkeeper Dylan Bowman. Freshman Shane Nolan (Belvidere, N.J./Belvidere) sealed the win for Centenary with his first collegiate goal during the 88th minute.
The Cyclones were in command for much of the game, attempting 25 shots, compared to just five for the Defenders, and recording all seven of the match's corner kicks. Sophomore goalkeeper Jesse Goleman (Pittsburgh, Pa./Taylor Allderdice) earned his 11th victory of the year in net, while Bowman stopped nine shots for Baptist Bible.
