Cyclones Rally To Tie Eagles
PATCHOGUE, N.Y. – Centenary College rallied from a two-goal deficit to earn a 2-2 draw with St. Joseph's (LI) in non-conference men's soccer action from Patchogue, N.Y., on Saturday afternoon.
St. Joseph's had all of the momentum early as Daniel Sorrano and Fabio Alves netted goals during the match's opening 11 minutes to put the Eagles in front 2-0. However, the Eagles would be held off the scoreboard during the remainder of the match.
Freshman forward Luis Marin (Union City, N.J./Union Hill) responded for the Cyclones, scoring his second goal to slice the Eagles' lead in half at 2-1.
With the score the same and just over 10 minutes to play in regulation, sophomore Sean Robinson (Mount Olive, N.J./Mount Olive) brought the Cyclones even with SJC. Robinson fired a shot into the back of the net for his first score of the fall.
Both teams had scoring chances during the 20 minutes of extra time but each goalkeeper was up to the task of preserving the match for his team. Sophomore net minder Jesse Goleman (Pittsburgh, Pa./Taylor Allderdice) stopped both shots he faced, while Eagles' goalie Niko Petratos had to block four. A St. Joseph's shot also rang off the post.
Goleman totaled 10 saves for the Cyclones, who were outshot by a slim 12-11 margin. Marin and junior Quinn Khouri (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty) both recorded three shots on goal.
Centenary returns home on Wednesday to face Penn State-Brandywine at 7:30 pm at Hackettstown High School.
