Cyclones Upend 16th-Ranked Susquehanna
SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Freshman Luis Marin (Union City, N.J./Union Hill) netted his first collegiate goal and sophomore goalkeeper Jesse Goleman (Pittsburgh, Pa./Allderdice) made nine saves as the Centenary College men's soccer team knocked off No. 16 Susquehanna Friday night.
Despite being outshot 6-1 during the opening 45 minutes of play, the Cyclones (1-0) entered halftime knotted 0-0 with the Crusaders. Goleman made six first-half stops to keep Susquehanna at bay.
Just over two minutes into the second half, Marin found the back of the net for the game's lone goal.
The Cyclones had to fight off a late charge from the Crusaders, who attempted five second-half corner kicks. Goleman was up to the task as he blocked three more shots to preserve the victory.
Susquehanna held a 9-2 advantage in shots on goal and recorded all eight of the game's corner kicks. Patrick Fry and Andrew Murphy both recorded five shots to lead SU.
Goleman played all 90 minutes in net to earn the ninth victory of his career.
The Cyclones are back in action Saturday at 3:00 pm in the finale of the Lebanon Valley Invitational against the host Dutchmen.
