Danny Cordeiro Scores Lone Goal in NJIT's Wi
FAIRFIELD, CT – Senior Danny Cordeiro scored the lone goal of the game for NJIT in the Highlanders 1-0 shutout victory at Sacred Heart in the season opener for both teams at Park Avenue Field Friday afternoon.
The Highlanders (1-0) dominated offensively, outshooting the Pioneers (0-1) 17-2.
In the first half alone, NJIT tallied 11 shots with five of them coming from senior Mamadou Guirassy. Guirassy finished with a game-high seven shots.
At halftime, the score was tied 0-0 with neither team able to find the back of the net.
The tie was broken in the 52nd minute when Cordeiro finished a pass through the middle from freshman Marcus Agnolin.
NJIT keeper Victor Pujades posted his first shutout of the season. The sophomore set the NJIT Division I record for shutouts in a season in 2016 posting seven.
Robert Strain earned four saves in the loss for Sacred Heart.
The Highlanders head to Annapolis, MD on August 28 to take on Navy for a 7pm kickoff.
