HANOVER, N.H.- Freshmen Corey Delaney (Chatham, N.J.) and Lucielle Kozlov (Vancouver, British Columbia) each scored second half-goals paving the way for the Dartmouth women's soccer team to knock of Yale, 3-1, at Burnham Field on Saturday (Oct. 6).
The win gives Dartmouth (7-4-0, 2-1-0 Ivy League) their first win over the Bulldogs since 2007, snapping a four-game Yale winning streak. The three goals was also the most goals for the Big Green in an Ivy League contest since scoring three goals against Harvard in 2010.
Entering the second half tied at 1-1 Dartmouth didn't waste any time getting on the scoreboard pouncing on the Bulldogs just 2:02 into the half. Delaney connected with a Marina Moschitto (Andover, Mass.) cross and the rest was history as the Big Green never relinquished the lead.
Dartmouth didn't give Yale much breathing room throughout the game as they pressured Yale (5-6-0, 0-3-0 Ivy League) and its freshman keeper Rachel Ames. The Big Green held a 16-9 shots advantage and posted 11 shots in the first half.
Delaney's classmate Kozlov sealed the Big Green victory with a goal in the 70th minute. She weaved herself through the Yale defense and ripped a shot from the 18 into the far low post, unassisted.
Big Green goalkeeper Tatiana Saunders (Rye, N.Y.) made four saves in 90:00 while Delaney and Emma Brush (Grosse Pointe Park, Mich.) both had a team-best four shots.
Dartmouth (7-4-0, 2-1 Ivy League) was in control for the majority of the contest and dominated the first half. The Bulldogs had one chance early in the half but from that point on the Big Green defense held. Big Green leading scorer, Chrissy Lozier (Fairfield, Conn.) teed up the first shot of the game after breaking free about 20 yard out, she ripped a shot that Rachel Ames came out to save.
Seconds later Brush followed suit and after weaving her way into to the top of the box she nailed a shot that just barely went over crossbar.
Brush picked up her sixth goal of the season at the 13:56 mark. After the Big Green used a corner kick to get the ball in the box, defender Kelly Bach (Charlotte, N.C.) passed a ball on the foot of Aurelia Solomon (Washington, D.C.) who gave it to Brush who tapped it in for the goal.
Dartmouth will travel to Brown for a non-conference matchup on Tuesday (Oct. 9). Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. in Providence.
